WBJEE 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Students must verify every eligibility condition before submitting the application form. Disqualification occurs if any criterion is unmet.
Nationality
Candidates must be Indian Nationals or OCI (Overseas Citizens of India).
Age Limit
Candidates must be at least 17 years old as on 31 December 2026. There is no upper age limit for most courses. However, for Marine Engineering, the upper age limit is 25 years, as per previous guidelines.
Academic Qualification — Engineering/Technology
Candidates must have qualified Class 12 or equivalent from a recognised board. Physics and Mathematics are compulsory subjects. General category candidates must score 45% aggregate marks in Class 12. Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC) must score 40% aggregate marks.
The third subject alongside Physics and Mathematics must be one of the following: Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Computer Science, or Computer Application.
Academic Qualification — Pharmacy
For Pharmacy courses, candidates must have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology as mandatory subjects.
Academic Qualification — Architecture
For Architecture, candidates must score at least 50% marks in individual subjects and must also have a valid NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) score.
WBJEE 2026 Exam Pattern
WBJEE 2026 will be conducted in offline mode using an OMR sheet. The examination consists of two papers — Paper I for Mathematics and Paper II for Physics and Chemistry. The total duration is 4 hours, with 2 hours allocated to each paper. The question paper includes 155 multiple-choice questions divided across three subjects.
Paper-Wise Structure
Mathematics carries the highest weightage, consisting of 75 questions for 100 marks. Physics and Chemistry have equal weightage, with 40 questions each for 50 marks each, totalling 100 marks for Paper II.
Category-Wise Question Types
The question paper is divided into three categories — I, II, and III. Questions in Category I carry 1 mark each. Questions in Categories II and III carry 2 marks each.
In Category I and II, only one option is correct. In Category III, one or more options can be correct.
Negative Marking Scheme
There is negative marking in WBJEE. For Category I questions, ¼ mark is deducted per wrong answer. For Category II questions, ½ mark is deducted. Category III questions have no negative marking.
This is a critical strategic point. Students should attempt all Category III questions first. Exercise caution in Categories I and II.
Paper Eligibility and Rank Types
Students who attempt both Paper I and Paper II are eligible for the General Merit Rank (GMR) and Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR). They can apply for admission to all engineering and pharmacy courses. Candidates appearing for only Paper II are eligible for the Pharmacy Merit Rank only. Candidates appearing for only Paper I are not eligible for any rank.
Language of Exam
Candidates can choose to take the exam in English or Bengali.
